Veneers
Dental veneers are a possible solution to help you enhance your natural appearance and improve your smile's aesthetics. Many celebrities can attribute their picture-perfect smiles to veneers because they are a popular solution for fixing chipped, gapped, discoloured or misshapen teeth.
Dental veneers are an excellent treatment to consider if you want to improve your smile's aesthetics. Dental veneers are stain-resistant, durable and attractive––much like natural teeth, only better. Ballina Coast Dental offers porcelain and veneer dental veneer options from which you can choose to upgrade your look.
What Are Veneers?
Veneers are tooth coverings made from ultra-thin shells of material that provide a more classically-shaped look to your teeth. Your dentist adheres to the veneers on teeth that you would like to improve. Veneers closely resemble the appearance of natural tooth enamel, and they look so realistic that most people may not even realise you've had dental work done––they'll just notice your straight, white and lovely-looking teeth.
Dental Veneers Are Versatile
Dental veneers are thin coverings your dentist shapes and places on the front, visible surface of a tooth or several teeth. They look just like natural teeth, and we can make sure they complement your appearance and match your smile. Veneers can correct several dental concerns and aesthetic flaws, such as:
- Crooked or asymmetrical teeth
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Discoloured or stained teeth that don't respond to professional whitening
- Chipped, fractured or worn teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Gummy smiles
- Gaps or uneven spacing between teeth
Our Ballina dentists use porcelain or composite resin veneers, depending on the patient's needs and goals.
The Dental Veneer Process
First, we determine if veneers are the proper treatment for you and your needs by performing a comprehensive examination. If you're a good candidate for veneers, we prepare the teeth by gently etching the enamel to make room for the veneers.
Next, we take digital impressions of your teeth to create your veneers, so they have a precise fit and meet our exact specifications for colour, shape and size. We send the impression to our local lab partners, where they custom-fabricate the veneers. It may take a couple of weeks for the final veneers to be complete, so we will provide you with temporary veneers to wear in the meantime.
At your return visit, we place the veneers to check for fit, shape and shade. After any adjustments, we clean the teeth to clear away cavity-causing bacteria, so the veneer is placed on a thoroughly sanitised tooth. Once the teeth are clean, we bond the veneers to the teeth using dental cement. Using ultraviolet light, we cure and harden the cement, ensuring the utmost security and stability of the veneers.
How to Care for Dental Veneers
Dental veneers become a part of your teeth, so they don't require special care. However, as with any treatment or restoration, we recommend practising good oral health hygiene and habits to extend the lifespan of your veneers. Veneers can last 10–15 years or longer if well cared for.
Here are some tips for caring for your smile with veneers:
- Avoid chewing on sticky, hard or sharp foods, especially using your front teeth.
- Avoid chewing on objects like pens, ice or your fingernails.
- Never use your teeth as tools to open packages or untwist bottle caps.
- Consider using a protective mouthguard if you play sports or participate in recreational activities.
- If you grind or clench your teeth during sleep, we recommend using an oral appliance or night guard to protect your teeth from damage or wear.
- Visit your dentist for routine dental exams and professional cleanings to ensure your smile stays healthy and problem-free.
